2024 is already shaping up to be another huge year for NT Bitumen & Asphalt (NTBA), with the crew having mobilized at the end of January from Darwin to the Tanami.
Two huge contracts on both Tanami Road and the Carpentaria Highway with Exact Contracting are expected to keep the crew busy until the first quarter of 2025. Elsewhere, upgrades will be completed on the Stuart Highway – just south of Tennant Creek – working for Black Cat Civil.
2023 was an exceptionally busy year for the crew, having smashed out about 50km of brand-new road on the Carpentaria Highway, and approximately 70km on Tanami Road.
It is looking like new highways, or highway upgrades in the Northern Territory will be constructed to a width of 9 metres, as is the case with both the Carpentaria and Tanami projects. On the Carp, we are using a double/double seal (two coat seal) with 20mm and 10mm aggregate (stone, chips), while on the Tanami the scope calls for the use of 14mm and 7mm aggregate.
