NT Bitumen & Asphalt have finally been able to complete work on the Barkly Stock Route for Exact Contracting, spending the latter part October and the start of November out in the sticks. It was a huge job with the team sealing 21 kilometres of road to a width of 7 metres. It required nearly 300,000 litres of hot bitumen to get the job done, while almost 2500 tonne of 14mm rock was spread over the top. In addition to the this, the crew needed to put two seal coats on the floodway areas with 14mm and 7mm stone, as well as tying it all in with some well-worked tapers. Having completed this work, the crew headed south to complete a seal at Mount Everard, just north of Alice Springs. The work was done for Black Cat Civil, and involved priming of the gravel base, followed by a two-coat seal with 14mm and 7mm aggregate.
The crew needed a total of about 3700 litres of hot bitumen, and they used a combined total of 36-tonne of rock (about 27m3). For anyone interested, the method of work is detailed below.
